Software Characteristics

What is CMM?

CMM stands for capability maturity model which is a registered service mark of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). This development model was created after the study of lot of data collected by organizations. The U.S. Department of Defense funded this research. This model is specially developed for the software development process. It is an effective approach towards improving it. In this model five levels are given. Every software company has one of its levels which will describe the company’s ability to develop software. Levels are-

1. Initial: It is base of this process. At this level conditions are not stable for development of the quality of the software. The success of any project is depending on the experience and personal views of the project manager and programmer. At this level process are adhoc and undocumented.
2. Repeatable: At this level, basic management technologies of the project have been introduced in the organization like to track cost, schedule and functionality. There is special department for quality has been formed.
3. Defined: At this level, the processes of software development have been introduced and documented. There is a special quality management department maintaining these standards. All the software follows the approved organization standard for the development process.
4. Managed: At this level detailed quality and quantity measures are collected. Due to this better project management is achieved.
5. Optimizing: At this level we enabled the continuous process improvement by incrementing and innovating technological improvements.

Intro to software

Software is a collection of programs, procedure and algorithms that tells computer  to perform task. It instructs the hardware what to do and how to do. Mainly software are divided into three categories:

Application software

Application software, also known as application or an app, is computer software designed to help the user to perform specific tasks. It is a set of programs that allows the computer setup to perform data processing job for user. Example includes enterprise software, accounting software, office suites, graphics software and media players.  

System software

System software refers to the files and programs that make up your computer's operating system. It is designed to operate the computer hardware, to provide basic functionality, and to provide platform for running software. System files include libraries of functions, system services, drivers for printers and other hardware, system preferences, and other configuration files. The programs that are part of the system software include assemblers, compilers, file management tools, system utilities, and debuggers.

Programming software

Programming software include tools in form of programs or application that software developer used to create, debug, maintain and support other program and application. They are come in a combined form called IDE( integrated development environment). Examples of programming software are visual studio, net beans, eclipse etc.

SLOW PC PROBLEMS

INTRODUCTION:

My computer is running slow what steps can I do to fix it?

Causes:

This problem can be caused by any of the below possibilities:

• Not enough hard drive space.
• Left over programs and bad files.
• Data Corruption.
• Missing Windows updates or outdated drivers.
• Computer is overheating.
• Corrupt OS.
• Bad Hardware.

Not enough hard drive space

Verify that there is at least 200-500MB of free hard drive space. This available space allows the computer to have room for the swap file to increase in size as well as room for temporary files.

Hard drive corrupted or fragmented

• Run Disk Scan or something equivalent to verify there is nothing physically wrong with the computer hard drive.

• Run Disk Defragmenter to help ensure that data is arranged in the best possible order. 

Background programs

Remove or disable any TSRs and start up programs that automatically start each time the computer boots.

Tip: To see what programs are running in the background and how much memory and CPU they are using open Task Manager.  If you are running Windows 7 run Resmon to get a better understanding of how your computer is being used.

If you've got an antivirus scanner on the computer, spyware protection program, or other security utility make sure it's not scanning your computer in the background. Often when these programs begin to scan the computer it can decrease the overall performance of your computer.

Scan for malware

Today, spyware and other malware is a big cause of many computer problems including a slow computer. Even if an antivirus scanner is installed on the computer we recommend running a malware scan on the computer. Use the free version of Malware bytes to scan your computer for malware.

Hardware conflicts

Verify that the Device Manager has no conflicts. If any exist resolve these issues as they could be the cause of your problem.

• Make sure you have all the latest Windows updates installed in the computer.
• If you are on the Internet when your computer is slow also make sure all browser plugins are up-to-date.

update drivers

Make sure you've got the latest drivers for your computer. Especially the latest video drivers. Having out-of-date drivers can cause an assortment of issues. before updating your driver you should have to maintain the driver backup.

Computer or processor is overheating

Make sure your computer and processor is not overheating, excessive heat can cause a significant decrease in computer performance some processors will even lower the speed of the processor automatically to help compensate for the heat related issues.
